My Research paper
Deportation and the effects it has
Intro section
The topic that I chose was deportation and how it affects the economy. Why I chose it was because it is a very important topic right now with the new president and what he has been doing about the border with the wall and his plans to deport millions of undocumented men, women, and children.
What product I am trying to make for this is to make people aware of this problem and clear up some information that might not or is not true. I think the final product for this project would ether be a short documentary or a public service announcement to help with what I am trying to do.
I know that not very many people know that immigrants do actually work to help the economy. And immigrants are not the people that do the most crimes in the united states at all. A question that I had is why doesn’t the current president make it easier to get the right papers or documents to get into america?
I have had my first interview with a immigration lawyer Her name was Ilene She is also a professor at a college. Some other people I would like to interview would be a border patrol agent, a D.A.C.A recipient, and maybe a government official from mexico. Some questions
Search process
The methods that I use to research my topic is to look up my question and find a sources that has the information that I am looking for. Another way is if the site that I find gives me the exact information about my question. We also had to interview people and the way we found is by asking the teachers and looking up people that knew a lot about the topic of deportation.
The primary sources that I would try to be using are statistics and people that has working with or is working in or with this topic. I chose sources by how much information it had om my topic and what I was looking for specifically for my questions.
The successes that I have had is being able to find a lot of sources because it is an important topic at this moment because of the current president. Me and my group also found a few people to interview and I was very surprised that we got some people. Some things at is hard is that sometimes I can’t find some information for some of my questions.
What I learned
A few of the conclusions that I had arrived and some conclusions that my group members came up with and that I thought had an interesting point. Here is one, that not many people know very much or want to know about deportation. Many people think that deportations is a good thing for this state but you know that many illegal immigrants do jobs that people don’t really know or want to do at all. Did you know, that Illegal immigrants contribute about 15% to the U.S. economy.
The sources that I used to find my information were interviews that my group and I had and a few of sites that I found online. These sources that I had help me come to my conclusions. The interview gave me information from real people that I talk to and give me information that not many sites could give me. Here is one thing that one of the interviews showed me. She was 16/ in high school/ daca came out during graduation/ apply for opportunities/ risk for disclosing family was undocumented/ she got daca 2013 / was able to get her first job/ college and finish bachelors / “my life would have been much harder without DACA” (Interview: Anonymous DACA RECIPIENT). This was a DACA recipient that my group an I interviewed and this the summary of what happened in her life up until a seton point.
A few thing that I have to show people my information is. I have the voice recordings of the three interviews my group and I did. Also two of article I found have videos attached to them and they go with the articles.
Reflection
The thing at impacted me the most wal I was researching this topic was that, not all illegal immigrants that come to the united states are coming here to find and make a better life for there family. Many illegal immigrants that have been deported were deported for the smallest missdemeanor like a parking ticket or something small like that. Some new insight that I got from this was that they don’t get no second chance when they do something wrong even if it wes something small, and that many of them are afraid for applying for DACA statice because they are filling out a government document that says that they are undocumented. They are afraid that the government will use that to find them a deport them.
The creation of my papel picado was pretty hard for me at one point because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. But then I found a picture of the border it was taken at the same place that my class and I went to on a field trip and I thought it was the exact thing I wanted for my papel picado. The picture was these two people on the the San Diego side of the border and they were talking to there family on the other side of the border. The phrase that I my teacher help me get was search for a better life with dignity. I felt like this message goes with my topic because many people that have been deported were taken away from there family but they took their family there to give them a better life for them.
I thought it was going to be pretty fun partnering with another school and talking to kid that were close to the same age as me. When I first started to talk to my partners I was very nervous to talk to them and ask them my question. As we continued to talk I got more and more used to talking to them and asking questions I had. I notice that I felt very uncomfortable asking about my topic which is deportation but I think it was something that I should have felt more comfortable talking about.
I was awesome to meet my partners face to face for the first time. The day was great we took them on a ture of the school campus, having a little potluck with them, and going ice skating with them before they left to go back to mexico. I always wondered how we were going to keep in touch even though we are not in the same state, but now we have things called social media now to keep in touch in long distance situations like this. This day was very fun for me and my group and I hope I can do it again one day.
